| The basic structure of this piece is comprised of two cylinder forms one inside the other with the top half of the outer form cut away. The inner cylinder is made with two different color clays as are the hand rolled stones that are scattered around the base of the form. The ladder is constructed from driftwood sticks found along the shores of Lake Champlain. |
| On the side opposite the ladder
is a knotted rope made with the fibers from dogbane twigs. The
rope leads to a small chamber in which a miniature book is suspended.
The chamber is also wired for a light. I think I almost
prefer the chamber to remain dark. When dark you can still make
out that there is something suspended in the chamber, but can't quite
make out what it is. This maintains more of a sense of mystery.
The cover is a stack of three "stones" that represent a cairn or trail marker know as an apechata.
